If you’d love to learn the art of Egyptian bellydance in a fun and supportive setting, I’m here to help! I offer a range of Egyptian dance courses to suit everyone from absolute beginners to dancers with many years experience – both in person in South Manchester, and online via Zoom.

Autumn/Winter 2021 Bellydance Courses

My Autumn/Winter courses start in the first week of October, with in-person classes at MEA Central in Manchester on Monday evenings, and Zoom classes on Tuesdays.

Here’s an overview of the class times:

The theme for this term is classic Egyptian dance from the 1970s and 1980s. In both the beginners and improvers courses, we’ll be dancing to some fantastic vintage Arabic music, and having a look at the signature moves of some old-school bellydance divas, from Nagwa Fouad and Soheir Zaki to Fifi Abdou and Mona el-Said! (and don’t panic if you don’t know who they are yet 😉)

In-person course info: Mondays 4th of October to 22nd of November, in the beautiful modern dance studio at MEA Central, Lytham Road, Manchester M14 6PL. In-person courses cost £64 for 8 weeks, and are strictly limited to 15 places this term to enable safe distancing.

The class levels

Beginners courses are designed for complete beginners, and they are also perfect if you’re a more experienced dancer who’d like to work on the foundations of your technique In these classes, we cover essential Egyptian dance moves and steps, get a feel for the rhythms and styles of Arabic music, and have lots of fun dancing together in a relaxed group.

Improvers classes are suitable for dancers who have attended my previous beginners courses, and you will get the most out of them if you continue to attend the beginners classes too a while after “moving up”. In these classes, we’ll go into more depth on a different topic each term. This is a chance to build on what you’ve learned in the beginners class, and start putting more of your dance skills into action!

My bellydance classes will help you develop the skills and confidence to enjoy Egyptian dance in a social setting – whilst learning dance technique that looks beautiful, feels good, and supports your body’s natural movement.

Each class includes relaxation and body awareness, an energising cardio warmup, dance technique followed by plenty of “actual dancing”, and a gentle cooldown stretch.

Hi there!

My name is Rachael Borek and I’ve been studying Egyptian dance since 2008, and teaching bellydance classes here in Manchester since 2018.

My number one mission as a teacher is to make dance an accessible and uplifting experience for everyone – even if you don’t see yourself as a “natural dancer”, have had a hard time with other physical activities, are very shy, or think you have two left feet… As I see it, my job is to be flexible and find out what works for you, so that you can enjoy the moves, get into the music, and generally have a good time in class!
